Follicular phase recipe: cookies

Great because: paleo, no refined sugars, no refined flours!

Cycle-Syncing During the Follicular Phase

The follicular phase is the first half of the menstrual cycle, starting on the first day of menstruation and lasting until ovulation. This phase sees progressively rising estrogen levels (the primary sex hormone), which promote energy, mood enhancement, and an overall sense of vitality. During this time, women may experience increased motivation, creativity, and social engagement, making it an ideal period for setting new goals and tackling challenging tasks.

Benefits of Cycle-Syncing

Cycle-syncing involves aligning lifestyle choices, including diet, exercise, and self-care practices, with the different phases of the menstrual cycle. By doing so, women can optimize their physical and emotional well-being throughout the month. During the follicular phase, the focus is often on activities that harness the energy and enthusiasm that come with increased estrogen levels.

Why Oats Are Good for the Follicular Phase

  • Complex Carbohydrates: Oats are a rich source of complex carbohydrates, providing sustained energy levels that support increased physical activity and productivity during this energetic phase.

  • Fiber-Rich: The high fiber content in oats aids digestion and helps maintain stable blood sugar levels, which is essential for mood stability and sustained energy.

  • Rich in Nutrients: Oats are packed with essential vitamins and minerals, mostly including B vitamins, manganese, iron, and magnesium, all of which during your menstrual phase levels decreased and play a crucial role in energy production and hormonal balance. In fact, manganese is a mineral that helps metabolise carbohydrates and process fat, as well as create sex hormones (great for thyroid!).

  • Supports Hormonal Balance: The beta-glucans in oats can help modulate insulin levels and appetite/satiety regulating hormones, which is beneficial for balance during the follicular phase.
